About

An M&A advisory firm for private company owners

BuySell Consortium advises owners, acquirers and their professional advisors on the sale, purchase and valuation of established private companies in Canada.

The firm

The name dates from the firm’s origin as a consortium of independent practitioners. That is not what BuySell Consortium is today. It is a single advisory practice, partner-led, with one person accountable for every engagement from the first conversation to Closing.

We work across sectors. The disciplines that produce a good outcome are the same whether the company builds homes, installs mechanical systems, runs a clinic or manufactures a product. What changes from one mandate to the next is the buyer universe, and identifying the right buyer is the work.

The practice is built on valuation. The partner responsible for each file is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a designated business valuator, and the value we put on a company is a conclusion we can defend to a buyer, a lender, a court or the Canada Revenue Agency.

Arthur J. Madjarian

Executive Chairman

Arthur co-founded BuySell Consortium and serves as its Executive Chairman. He has spent more than twenty-five years in mergers and acquisitions and business advisory. From 2013 until his retirement from that firm in 2020 he was Canadian Managing Partner of Dealer Solutions Mergers and Acquisitions, a period in which he and his partners built it into the leading M&A advisor to Canadian automotive retail. He has completed or participated in several hundred transactions, and the owners he has represented describe him the same way: he finds the counterparty quietly and stays with the file until it closes.

Through Madjarian + Associates, the advisory firm he founded in 2009, Arthur also works with private equity, venture capital and family office investors, and on ESG advisory. He divides his time between Toronto and Europe.

How we work

What you can expect from an engagement

A candid assessment before any commitment. If the business is not ready, or the range of value the evidence supports is not what you were hoping for, you will hear that in the first meeting rather than six months into a process.

One partner throughout. The person you meet at the start is the person negotiating the letter of intent and sitting with counsel at Closing.

Confidentiality as a working method rather than a promise. No company is identified to a buyer until a non-disclosure agreement is in place and the buyer has been qualified, and opportunities circulated to our registered buyers are blind.

Fee terms in writing before any work begins.
